HippieTrek guides on a mountain trail

Our Story

Mountain Born, Adventure Ready.

HippieTrek was born from one man's dream — to share the mountains that raised him without the corporate price tag. What started as a porter's hope is now a family of passionate local guides, walking trails we've known since childhood.

We are not an agency. We are homegrown. Every trek we offer is one we've walked ourselves, chosen for beauty, safety, and the villages that raised us. Hundreds have trekked with us so far. And we're just getting started.

Testimonials

Stories from the trail

Our guide knew every switchback like the back of his hand. It never felt like a tour — it felt like walking with a friend who happened to grow up in the Himalayas.

SM

Sarah Mitchell

Everest Base Camp Trek

Booked with three other agencies quoting double the price for the same route. HippieTrek delivered better food, better lodges, and a guide who actually cared.

DC

David Chen

Annapurna Circuit Trek

I was nervous trekking solo, but the team matched me with a small group and checked in constantly. Felt safe the entire way, even above 4,000m.

PS

Priya Sharma

Langtang Valley Trek

Incredible views with almost no crowds. Our itinerary got adjusted on day two because of weather, and they handled it without missing a beat.

TH

Tom Hendricks

Mardi Himal Trek

This was our honeymoon trek and they treated it like one. Small touches — a cake at a teahouse, extra rest day when altitude hit — made it unforgettable.

ER

Emily Rousseau

Manaslu Circuit Trek

Mustang isn't an easy trek to plan and they clearly knew the region inside out. Permits, logistics, homestays — all handled without a single hiccup.

Meet The Team

The people behind every trek

Deepak Thapa

Founder & Senior Guide

Deepak Thapa

Deepak's story with the mountains started long before HippieTrek did — as a porter carrying loads on trails he now leads travelers down. Two decades of guiding later, he's summited routes across the Khumbu, Annapurna, and Manaslu regions more times than he can count, but says the view never gets old. He founded HippieTrek on one belief: that local guides who grew up on these trails could offer something no outside agency ever could — real knowledge of the mountains, the villages, and the people who call them home.

Bibek Basnet

IT Operations & Customer Support

Bibek Basnet

Bibek is the reason your booking confirmation lands in your inbox, your questions get answered at midnight your time, and the website you're reading this on actually works. He handles everything behind the scenes — systems, support, and the hundred small technical details that let Deepak and the guiding team focus on what they do best: the mountains. If you've ever messaged HippieTrek with a question, there's a good chance Bibek was the one who replied.

Why Choose Us

Trekking, done right

Affordable Prices

Premium trekking at honest, transparent prices with no hidden fees.

We cut out middlemen and work directly with local communities. Every dollar you spend stays in Nepal and supports the families who call these mountains home. We publish all costs upfront — what you see is exactly what you pay.

Expert Local Guides

Guides born in the mountains they lead you through.

Our guides grew up on these trails. They know every shortcut, every weather pattern, and every teahouse owner by name. Their cultural knowledge and language skills transform a trek into a genuine immersive experience you simply can't get elsewhere.

Safety First

Satellite comms, medical kits and trained first responders on every trek.

Every group carries a full wilderness medical kit and a satellite communicator. All guides hold high-altitude first aid certification, and we have emergency evacuation protocols in place for every route we operate. Your safety is never negotiable.

Customizable Itineraries

We adapt every trek to your fitness, schedule and ambitions.

Tell us your pace, your interests, your budget. We'll design an itinerary that fits. Want extra acclimatization days? A detour to a hidden monastery? A rest day in a village? We make it happen — no rigid packages, just your perfect trek.

Community Impact

Your trek directly supports the villages that make it possible.

We're not an agency skimming profit from a distance — we're from these mountains. A meaningful share of every booking goes straight back into the villages you'll pass through: local guides, family-run teahouses, and the communities who've welcomed trekkers for generations. When you walk with us, you're investing in the people, not just the peak.

24/7 Support

Reachable around the clock from booking to your return home.

Our support team monitors every active trek in real time. Whether you need a last-minute route change, an emergency contact, or just reassurance during a tough altitude day — someone is always on the other end of the line, day or night.

FAQ

Questions, answered

We rate every trek by difficulty — Easy, Moderate, or Challenging — right on the trek page. Easy routes like Poon Hill are beginner-friendly with short daily walks. If you're new to trekking, we'll help you pick a route that matches your fitness level, and our guides adjust pace on the trail regardless.
